Dearest Marinda,

Dear Vicky, Mabel and Peggy!

When I first came to Hong Kong in the early 1980s to visit Marinda (Rosemarie was already there), I was warmly welcomed by your wonderful father and spoiled by him for the rest of my trip. He took us three everywhere, from the most delicious restaurants, where I tried 1000 year old eggs, to the Crazy Horse in Macau, or to the best shirt tailor in town… A few years later we re-met at Marinda’s wedding, but my favorite memory of him dates back to 2013, when I came to Sausalito and saw him for lunch. So much time had gone by, he was already in his nineties and I was expecting an old, frail man with a cane. But nothing of the sort. He came hopping down the staircase like a youngster and off we went for a great meal. I could not believe my eyes. It was always such fun to be with him and to enjoy the good things in life, but as he used to say, “everything in moderation”. An amazing man that I will dearly keep in my heart. I am sending you my warmest regards, especially to you, my dearest friend Marinda, in memory of your beloved father Jerry.
