Like so many, I was shocked and saddened to hear the tragic news about Chris. As an undergraduate, Chris was a personal tutee of mine. From the beginning of his time in Aberystwyth, he’d thrown himself into his studies with great enthusiasm and always aspired to move into postgraduate study. It was great that he achieved this aim, but so sad that his potential was cut short.
Chris would often knock on my office door when passing along the corridor and ask if I had a minute for a chat – it was always good to see him. They were always entertaining conversations, be they mathematical or about his beloved Zorgo. I’ll remember them fondly.
More recently, it has been a pleasure to work with Chris as he delivered tutorials on my Differential Equations module. This was a role that let Chris pass on some of his enthusiasm for mathematics to his juniors and I know that his teaching was particularly well received and inspiring.
The loss of Chris will be felt deeply in the Aberywtyth mathematics community. Rest in peace, Chris.
