Steve was well liked and respected by all staff.  He had such a great understanding of the company and the people within it.  He was patient, generous with his time and has helped me with so much over the years.  He will truly be missed. …

I wish my kindest thoughts and wishes to Steve’s family and loved ones. Really gutted for all of us over the loss of such a kind colleague. …

Steve was just a lovely guy, as the most non-technical person in the company by a mile he always took the time and normally considerable effort to explain to me what was happening and the implication of where we were going.  Considering how many different projects and activities he was doing at the same time he had this ability to always look calm and take time to talk it’s a skill I wish I had myself.  I will personally miss him lots. …

One of the things that impressed me when I joined Tessella, was the existence of an IT team that was universally loved, praised and admired!  It’s not always like that!  Now for sure, Tessella recruited well and had great staff in this function, but it was clear to me that Steve’s careful hand, and his clear leadership, was something special.  He had high expectations, he wanted the ‘customer’ experience to be outstanding, and he set a direction for the team and the business that had a transformative and lasting impact.  He had a great vision for what ‘good’ looked like, and he understood the business and the technology – a great combination.  As others have commented, when Covid hit, and many businesses were considering how to adapt to working from home, Tessella just ‘went home, and carried on’.  Almost at the flick of a switch, there was a need to work remotely and the business just achieved it, with virtually no impact on business continuity.  A tremendous achievement, and testament to Steve’s forward-looking customer-focused approach that underpinned our resilience (it wasn’t like that everywhere!).  I valued Steve’s passion for the business, for doing the right thing, for supporting his …

Steve was a supportive, encouraging, but most of all friendly person to work with. The times I worked with him I found enjoyable and fulfilling. He taught me so much, while supporting me to learn from the work I was doing. He did all this with a positive attitude which made the team a happy place to be. He will be missed. …

Although I had only known and worked with Steve for one year, I very much valued his approach and opinions. Due to the travel limitations I only met Steve once personally in Abingdon last summer. We did not always technically agree but the discussions were always constructive as well as professional and we always came to a agreement. He was very dedicated and it was a pleasure to have worked with Steve. My deepest condolencies …

As our manager we could not have asked for better than Steve. He was extremely approachable and would always make time, regardless of what was vying for his attention. He was an endless source of wisdom, guidance, positivity, and anecdotes that made being part of Internal Systems a real pleasure. We all knew that he always had our best interests at heart and would put our wellbeing first. Only recently my new-born son had an unexpected trip to hospital that Steve showed great compassion and understanding for, that was much appreciated in a very difficult time. I’ll never forget the huge contribution Steve made to my development as an individual and I am hugely grateful for the time we had working together. We will all greatly miss him. You have my deepest condolences. …
