In Loving Memory of

Simon-Parker

Simon Parker

This condolence book is a tribute to Simon Parker. Please feel free to add messages or memories of Simon which you would like to share.

Simon was the longest serving and a much loved member of the MHRA’s Medicines Borderline team. He acted as a mentor to many of the newer Classifiers and, as a result of his wealth of knowledge and generous nature, was always on hand to provide guidance or just to chat. In addition to being well liked and respected by colleagues at the MHRA, he was also very well known by colleagues from other government departments, as well as representatives from industry.

He will be missed greatly by his friends and colleagues and our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.

“If you’re going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased.” – Maya Angelou When I joined the Borderline team last year, Simon welcomed me to the team and said that I should not hesitate to ask him for help or advice. I didn’t. He was so kind, knowledgeable, helpful and took the time to answer my questions.  I have been in awe of his work ethics, knowledge, bravery, sense of humour and approach to solve the most complex issues with such ease. Even though he had his own workload, he was keen that the team worked as one. I am grateful for the mentoring I received from Simon. His work continues to inspire and mentor the new classifiers.  Thank you, my friend and rest in peace. I will miss Simon dearly and pray that his family and friends find peace in his memories. …

i am very sad to have been informed of Simon’s passing. i have known him for many years as i was on the Interview Panel for the Borderline Classifer post when Simon was recuited to the team and he impressed me then and even more so when he built up his expertise in the area. He was regared highly both by colleagues and the sector for his specialist knowledge in particular in sports supplements. He was always aware of the need to be impartial and fair but to act in the public interest. He will be a much missed. …

I first met Simon when I joined the Borderline team where he immediately made it clear he would always be available to provide support when needed; whether that was in the form of assisting with tricky cases, providing general guidance or just being available to chat (which almost always involved discussions about how both City and Arsenal were getting on). His involvement in my development as a Borderline Classifier was invaluable but, more importantly, he was a friend who will be sorely missed. My thoughts are with his family and close friends during this sad time. …

I knew Simon for 27 of the 30 years he worked at the Agency and worked closely with him in the Borderline Section for nine years. Not only did he have an immense knowledge of the borderline area but he could always be relied upon for his common sense approach and his ability to provide a fresh, and often witty, perspective on complicated issues. Many have been the times that I have had to go to him with a seemingly insoluable problem and he would always have the answer – usually in minutes. Simon will be sorely missed both for his expertise and as a friend by the Borderline team and by many throughout the Agency.     …

I was Simon’s line manager between 2014 and 2019 and have known him since 2006. Simon’s characteristics: dogged determination and an innate sense of fairness meant that he was often a thorn in the side of some of industry’s more difficult characters but, at the same time, he was well respected and liked by others. He was also well known to the many Trade Bodies who are interested in the area of borderline  products and, while they may not always have agreed with him, he was very well liked and respected. Although Simon worked from home for the duration of my time managing him I spoke to him every Friday and our discussions always started with problem cases (which we always agreed how to deal) and frequently ended with a discussion about football (the only topic we rarely agreed on). I am so sorry to hear of his passing and pass on my condolences  to you. Chris Jones …

I was very sorry to hear of Simon’s passing. Joining the Borderline Team last year was made so much easier with Simon’s help and wealth of knowledge. He always had time to assist, providing guidance for my own understanding that I will take with me going forward. He is greatly missed on the team and my thoughts are with his family during this time.  …

Simon was very knowledgeable, experienced and well respected colleague. He was always willing to help and provided me with valuable guidance in dealing with difficult cases.
