Richard worked with Kantar for over 6 years as independent legal counsel. He forged many strong relationships and helped us conclude some of the biggest contracts supporting our Top 20 Global Client Leaders. Richard also mentored members of the legal team. He showed what true partnership was, how to build relationships across the world and impart advice and wisdom. Many colleagues have already expressed their shock and grief at his passing. Richard will be missed dearly. Many at Kantar saw him as a friend, mentor and trusted colleague. Richard left a wonderful legacy that spoke to his generosity, intelligence and caring nature. In March, he wrote about setting up Spine Counsel as follows: “The rather lofty purpose I set myself when I started Spine Counsel was to change the perception held that lawyers were necessary evils that every business had no choice but to engage with especially when something goes wrong to one where lawyers are seen as trusted advisers that can help a business to mitigate risk, create value and scale profitably. Instructing a lawyer is personal. Ensuring the lawyer you instruct gets your business and is available when you need support is essential. Done right, it makes for a really effective relationship.”
