Book of Remembrance of

Pat Whiteman

Patricia Mary Whiteman 1944-2021

Patricia Whiteman died peacefully in Pinderfields Hospital on Thursday 20th May 2021, with her loving husband by her side.

The beloved wife of Harry and much loved former Biology teacher at Wakefield Girls’ High School and Queen Elizabeth Grammar School.

On her final journey, the funeral cortège passed QEGS & WGHS with the funeral director walking in front of the cortège.  Staff from both schools, Green House and the Head Girl team, complete in their gowns, lined up outside the schools to clap and pay their respects as she passed by.

At the crematorium there were also current and former staff members from both schools.

Pat was a well-respected and loved member of both schools and will be missed greatly by all her loving family, friends, former colleagues and students.

Harry was very grateful to everyone for their support.

Pat Whiteman was a truly exceptional teacher. She was already in post when I joined the school in 1987 and she commented that we had much in common because we both had a husband called Harry. Pat was able to enthuse and inspire her students. She conveyed her extensive knowledge in imaginative ways and …

I have wonderful memories of Pat’s warmth and enthusiasm for her students and her teaching. I so enjoyed our conversations about her garden – such a knowledgeable plantswoman. I first met Pat in 1986 and we taught together at the High School until she retired from there. So many happy memories. In those days we had a tiny staffroom and we would sit together almost knee to knee, shivering in the cold. My first knowledge of her, apart from her smile and …

Kind, caring and forever smiling – Mrs Whiteman truly was one of a kind. It’s been almost a decade since I had a biology lesson with her, and my parents must have only met Mrs Whiteman a couple of times – but all our hearts sunk when we heard of her passing; such was …

The picture of Mrs Whiteman that is on this page is just how I remember her – always with a beaming smile and a jolly happy nature. You couldn’t help but feel happy as soon as you saw her. I was only taught by her for a short period but she made such an …

What I remember most about Pat is her amazing smile. A smile that genuinely said she was pleased to see you and that she was just so happy to be doing what she was doing. She was a woman of incredible energy and generosity as well – a force of nature and a force …
