Book of Remembrance of

Pat Whiteman

Patricia Mary Whiteman 1944-2021

Patricia Whiteman died peacefully in Pinderfields Hospital on Thursday 20th May 2021, with her loving husband by her side.

The beloved wife of Harry and much loved former Biology teacher at Wakefield Girls’ High School and Queen Elizabeth Grammar School.

On her final journey, the funeral cortège passed QEGS & WGHS with the funeral director walking in front of the cortège.  Staff from both schools, Green House and the Head Girl team, complete in their gowns, lined up outside the schools to clap and pay their respects as she passed by.

At the crematorium there were also current and former staff members from both schools.

Pat was a well-respected and loved member of both schools and will be missed greatly by all her loving family, friends, former colleagues and students.

Harry was very grateful to everyone for their support.

Biology in B2 with Mrs Whiteman is, hands down, one of my favourite  memories from school.   I have so many stories I could share – her considered advice on which GCSE’s to choose, the catchphrase ‘Whiteman’s Talking!!’, or the time she let us get those goddam white rats out of their cage…  But …

Mrs. W was a legend. A giant amongst (wo)men. She taught me for many years, and A-level Biology would not have been the same without her. I have so many fond memories and ridiculous silly sayings to this day (“Turkey legs apart!”) that derive from the funny things she said and did in our …
