Book of Remembrance of

Pat Baillie

This book has been created in memory of our very much loved colleague, Pat Baillie in order that we can share our memories, condolences and our thoughts with her family.

Pat has had a long career within Marsh, was very knowledgeable and she leaves a huge gap within our organisation. She was not only a colleague but a friend and mentor to many.

I started working with Pat in 2010 when Marsh acquired HSBC & I became part of the BSU team as “one of her girls”. One of the first things she asked me was “I believe you know how to do Premium Credit” & when I said yes her reply was “good I can pass that on I hate doing it”!  She had a reputation of being scary but once you got to know her you realised her bark was worse than her bite and she had a sense of humour.  She didn’t mind having a chat as long as the work got done.  She respected people who did a good job or had at least tried their best.  She enjoyed her job & knew her role inside out & has left a big hole in the Manchester office.  She was a good friend to me checking I was okay when I was dealing with family illness & also when my mum died.  We spoke on the phone nearly every working day since working from home & I am really going to miss her both professionally & personally.  She was my work mum.  I would like to think she is …

Pat was a lovely lady; a supportive, knowledgeable, hard-working & loyal colleague and also a good friend.  I thoroughly enjoyed working with Pat over the years, until I retired in 2019. No matter how challenging the work was, Pat would deal with it. Her sense of humour definitely helped to keep us sane at times! I was so shocked to hear the sad news just before Christmas & I will always remember Pat with great fondness. Sending my deepest condolences to the family.  Angie. xx …

I only worked directly with Pat for a short time but during that short time she made a great impression on me and she taught me so much I will carry with me in the future. I had the great pleasure of having Pat as my first manager in Marsh. Her welcome and support from the beginning was phenomenal. She always had my back (taking on the odd manager for me!) and she always knew the answer…. Or the person that would. She knew everyone! She had a great sense of humour and plenty of laughs were shared. Although she did slightly scared me once when I said she was like a work grandma. I will greatly miss her. Sending my love to all her family. Liv xx …

When I used to ask Pat to tell me ‘how’ she knew something, Pat used to tell me ‘I just know it’. I used to get so frustrated but eventually understood that Pat did just know it.. her knowledge of Marsh, her colleagues and her role were an intrinsic part of her and it was obvious just how much Pat cared.  In lockdown, I would call Pat to check in, knowing that we’d chat not just about work – she’d tell me just what her neighbours were up to now and that always left me smiling! A huge character, Pat will be both remembered and missed. Nicki x …

My ‘go-to’ Eurosys expert of the North!  We were always thinking the same thing!  Loved our chats, especially the lockdown zoom meetings; you will be missed by so many.  Sending love to all your family and friends, Claire  …

I was scared of Pat when I first joined Marsh. She had an aura about her that made me think she was important and that I needed to stay out of her way before I even knew who she was. I was always worried about going to ask her something until I joined the Ops team when I learned how friendly and helpful Pat actually was. I’d often help her with tech issues and we’d spend forever on the phone ranting about this, that and the other. Though we didn’t speak often, I really enjoyed those conversations with Pat and learnt a lot about her as well as from her about Marsh and the working world. The office just won’t be the same without her.  …

Where does one start with personal working/social times with Pat going back to mid 1980’s.  Her work ethic to a continous high standard never veered whatever the system (or generation thereof) or the problems thrown at her to resolve. Remarkable lady. …

I have worked with Pat many times over the years at Marsh, but more so following my change of role into Corporate Operations team. I quickly came to realise just how very well respected Pat was to her colleagues especially in the Manchester office.  Her work ethic and sheer wealth of knowledge will be enormously missed by all that knew her. My thoughts go out to her family at this very sad time. …

I worked with Pat for 18 years until I retired in 2020.  I was devastated to the hear the news that she had passed away. What a formidable lady she will be sadly missed by everyone. Clare …

Pat was a great lady, someone I had daily banter with for over 12 years.  I used to enjoy my daily… lets say ‘little tellings off’ for not putting things in the right place or asking her “can you please show as ‘Booked’!” – I looked forward to her immediate response!  Over the years I must have got better and used to say to Pat, “come on, I’ve not had a daily ‘telling off’ for a while”.  It was great fun to have such banter in the office.  We got on brilliantly and I will miss her greatly.  Pat was straight to the point and was always right.  She always helped me, we had our little chats in the kitchen about our holidays and our good friend John Penwill who also sadly passed away two years ago.  A brilliant colleague and friend who will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.  God Bless.  Adrian x  …
