Book of Memories of

Hammond BW 1

Mike Hammond

This is a book created in memory of Mike Hammond, an ice hockey player who gave many great memories for the teams he served with distinction in his career.

As well as being a Great Britain international from 2018, he also played in the UK with Braehead Clan, Manchester Storm, Coventry Blaze and Nottingham Panthers after first arriving to play in 2016 and was due to the return to Glasgow Clan this season.

He was a hugely popular player and this book is dedicated to a terrific player and a really good guy off the ice.

Thank you

Although it was a tough one to have to write, I had the privilege of delivering Mike’s tribute ceremony to the crowd at Glasgow Clan this weekend. I loved watching Mike on the ice in his Clan colours,  but also looked forward to his visits to the arena with his other teams. In his quiet, and discrete way, he would check in with people, catch up, and in his unassuming way, just show that he cared about people he had met along his hockey journey. One of the nicest humans I’ve met in hockey over the past 40 years. Forever remembered…forever a Clansman. RIP Mike. …

It has taken a while to put this message on because I got too emotional at the loss of this young man and eyes were a bit misty! His parents did an amazing job raising Mike who was such a dedicated and talentented player but also such a nice genuine person. Loved you when you played with Clan before and would have loved to see you skate in purple again. Such an integral part of the GB team it was just such a joy to watch Mike on the ice. So missed by the hockey family but prayers go to his natural family along with heartfelt condolences on their huge loss – but he will live on in their hearts and in the hearts of the hockey family. …

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Mike’s passing.  We had the pleasure of watching Mike play ice hockey for the Nottingham Panthers and for Team GB.  Mike was a fantastic player and had great energy.  Mike was a true gentleman.  He always took the time to speak to us, say hi, give a fist bump, pose for a photo and answer our questions about ice hockey.  Mike was so kind and he was always smiling.  Rest in peace Mike. We send our thoughts and prayers to Mike’s family and friends. …

First time I saw Mike play, was when he played for the Manchester Storm. Such a talented player, and a nice guy, too. Last time was the GB game v Italy, in Nottingham, in May 2023. I filmed the last few minutes of that match and posted it to YouTube! Glad I did, as now I have a lasting memory of the sheer brilliance of that man, on my own channel!!!   Miss you loads, Hammy x Thank you!   Thoughts with those closest to you…     …
