A Book of Remembrance

Jane Firmin

We were all deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Jane, our much loved CEO.  Jane had worked at Women’s Aid in Luton for over twelve years. In that time, she touched the lives of many people, both as a colleague and as a friend.  Her passion and commitment to Women’s Aid in Luton were second to none and she led the organisation with enthusiasm and compassion enabling the team to provide the best support and care to the hundreds of women and children who use the services every year. Jane was a vibrant and warm person, always smiling, always ready to listen and always looking for ways to support more of those impacted by domestic violence.  We will miss her.

I have been very privileged to work with Jane for the past year, I learnt so much from her and loved her passion and commitment to women who have experienced violence in their homes.  There are many hundreds of women who are living changed lives due to her, many women who probably would not be alive today and children who did not have to stay in homes that were unsafe.   I really miss our 5 pm chats in the office putting the world to rights and hearing her talk about how proud she was of her gorgeous children, husband and her amazing Mum and Dad.  To Jane family was the centre of her world and seeing you all at her funeral I could see her in all of you children and the kindness that runs through your family.     My thought and prayers are with you as you try to move forward without her, just know that she has left a massive legacy to so many women and children and taught so many people so much. I met Jane in Costa in Luton, proper Luton girl! She wanted me to be a WAIL trustee and no was not going to be acceptable as an answer!! So I rocked up to meet Jane at the offices and then I was in the WAIL family.  I mainly saw Jane at Board meetings but then offered her supervision for about a year so early morning  meetings! Jane was always there with a smile and we shared more of our selves- I found out how much she loved her family and her long history and commitment to WAIL. I remember one day going to London as a group of Trustees with Jane for some training with the Charity Commission, we did have a giggle! So Jane, like me you enjoyed a large glass so tomorrow I will drink a toast to you. My pledge to you is that I will keep a close eye on WAIL. My condolences to you the family , look after each other and be very proud of Jane.  Gail xxx …
