In Memory of

Ian Thomas

Ian joined BAE Systems in October 2011, having already worked with us for several years before that as an associate, and in that time worked with many people across the business. This book shares those people’s thoughts and memories of Ian and the contributions he made; to the company, to its customers, to the teams and projects he worked on, and to those individuals themselves.

Where do I start. Ian was a great manager but more importantly became a great friend, he was always up for a good chin wag over coffee and chocolate chip shortbread. Ian always took a real interest in what we had to say, always asked about our families and was great at dishing out …

I worked with Ian back in the early 2000’s and he left an impression on me for his enthusiasm, energy as well as being very personable. Having seen some of the comments here I can see nothing has changed. It was great to work with you! …

I was very saddened to hear of Ian’s sudden passing. I worked with Ian a number of years ago and he was always a diligent and cheerful colleague – a pleasure to work with and someone who exuded positivity, albeit sometimes with a dry sense of humour. I last saw Ian a few months …

I worked with Ian back in 2006 when he was an associated for Detica. What stands out in my memory was his incredibly positive mindset and generous nature. We only worked together for a few months, but I felt welcomed from the outset. He was a very warm individual, and as I recall I …

I will always remember Ian as someone who made time for everyone, patiently answered all your questions and helping in any way that he could. He was just a great person to have around the office and I always enjoyed his company from Friday breakfast’s team socials and quizzes. My thoughts are with Ian’s …

I didn’t have to fortune to work closely with Ian directly but I have only positive experiences when meeting him. He was a naturally charming person, funny and very easy to get on well with. It was always a pleasure to talk to him and he brightened up the day of everyone. I wish …

I had the privilege of working with Ian as my manager for over 2 and a bit years. He was kind, patient, quick witted, but most importantly, encouraging. Always happy to give unjudgemental advice and support, he helped me with both work and non work related issues. From having chats over coffee discussing all …

I first worked with Ian on Bellini and he was the most patient, helpful, supportive and smiley man. I was new to consulting and Ian would always take time to check in with me. He was one of the very best. Since I left BAE, I would sometimes pass Ian on the bridge and …
