In Memory of

Dad

Gary McKenzie

Our Gary – Loved Husband, Dad, Grandad, Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend and Colleague. A true character who will be greatly missed by many. His witty sense of humour, his funny sayings and his ability to make a boring story comical.

Gary loved family get-togethers and horse racing, but never the two on the same day – unless it was a day out at the races! Cheltenham being the event of the year, The Grand National being a firm second and every Saturday any race meetings were held, the family would share their tips for the day. Travelling was another love of Gary’s. Stand out holiday being Mauritius 2016 where Gary and Lyn became Husband and Wife surrounded by their family. If the sun was out at home Gary would be sure to have his top off, sunning himself on the decking beer in hand, relaxing.

Once he received his diagnosis, Gary’s wish was to have as long as possible with his loved ones. To be well enough to take a drive in his much loved car with the roof down, to take a walk along Brighton Pier, to have a party with all the family enjoying time together – to have one last summer. Sadly it was not to be. 3 months later Gary sadly passed away at the age of 61 after a short yet brave battle with Lung Cancer. Smiling to the end, surrounded by his family.

The family have decided The Royal Surrey Hospital as their chosen charity for donations in place of flowers – in Gary’s name as he was so impressed with the care and support he received and even likened to being treated as a VIP. In particular the family would like to mention St Luke’s Cancer Centre for Gary’s care since his diagnosis and on Gary’s final day the A&E and Intensive Care Teams. Every effort was made on Gary’s last day and we will be forever grateful we were able to have our last moments and final goodbye.

We appreciate your kind words and any fond memories you may wish to share here however big or small.
