Francis Adzinku

We know that the news that Francis had died sent shock waves across the organsiation and beyond. Francis was an incredible nurse and a thoroughly decent human being who touched the lives of so many people. He could be relied on for championing nurses, providing mentoring to anyone seeking his support and truly living our Trust values. This is a place where you can share your memories of Francis and leave messages of condolence. We will share plans for other ways of paying tribute to our much loved colleague as they emerge.

A letter to Francis Dear Francis As a child my parents often said when good people pass away another light is dimmed in the night sky.  I am no longer sure if this is the case, but I do know that a bright light has dimmed across Oxleas and has gone out of my life.  I will be eternally grateful to you for the support, mentoring and for your valuable time you have shared with me, always encouraging, always caring, always there.  It was sometime into our friendship before I realised just how many others you were supporting, perhaps in the same way.  I remember us laughing when I asked you about your brothers, you said ‘my brothers’, I said yes Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. We laughed so hard, I miss you.   The world of Senior Management can sometimes be a lonely place, but I have always felt held and supported by you.  So goodnight my dear friend until we meet again, sleep well and peace be thine.  Your friend always and forever Lorna …

My dear Francis, it took me some time to write this message as I was completely shocked and devastated by your passing. I think that I am still in shock. I was looking forward to reuniting with you in Bexley. You took an avid interest in my career as a recently qualified nurse in 2014. You offered your mentorship which has been a major factor in my practice thus far. You encouraged me to stretch myself and was equally motivating and suportive. You would enjoy the june plums I would bring you from the market. We would discuss the differences and similarities between our cultures. You are deeply missed. Fly high with the angels. Dearest Francis, like so many of your colleagues in Oxleas, I was so shocked & saddened to hear the news of your passing. I’m still trying to process it. You were always there for me, not just as a colleague but also as a friend. I will miss your kindness & compassion and of course that infectious laugh and that beaming smile. Some people leave this world having made it a better place, and Francis you have certainly left behind a legacy in Oxleas for many years to come. My condolences go out to your family & friends. May you rest in eternal peace. God bless. …

Dear Francis, I will always remember you as the kindest of people with the biggest of hearts.  I still have the book you gave me when I left Oxleas in 1999 entitled “Simple Abundance, A Day Book of Comfort & Joy” – A fitting reminder of someone who brought comfort and joy to so many through your thoughtfulness and generosity.  Rest in peace, Cathie xxx …
