My dearest great grandma, how lucky we are to have had you in our lives for so long! Some of my favourite memories together are from various Christmases spent playing cards, and our two Christmas trips to Wales and Mousehole when we were younger. I loved to hear the stories from your life and how very different things are now. I don’t think anyone could count how many lives you have touched. If you really are reunited with all the things you loved from your life, I’m sure you’ll be lovingly playing a few tunes on the piano right now! With love forever and always 💕 Your great granddaughter, Stephanie      …

So sorry to hear of Effie’s passing, but also very happy to have the opportunity celebrate a lovely and worthwhile life. What a woman! My memories go back to several years in the 60s. Effie and John were my brother’s first in laws! Yes, I know, random……. As a young lad Effie taught me to play snooker, pick out the Z Cars theme on the piano, and probably some life lessons that were absorbed and used, but are no longer in my consciousness.  The friendly, brown, wire haired Rocky helped me overcome a fear of dogs, with Effie’s help. The many happy hours I had rooting around the chicken run and orchard at Hazeldene, after cycling the two miles from Wick, will stay with me forever. Effie was always around to guide and encourage. Why are my eyes watering?  I learnt to avoid the horns of the goat, and had such joy hand rearing the goat’s kid Pixie, at every opportunity, under Effie’s watchful eye.  Effie, John and Effie’s mum Edith took me on my first boating holiday to the Norfolk Broads, and John helped me catch my first, and only, fish. Thus began a lifelong love of boating holidays!  And …

So sorry to hear about the passing of wonderful Effie. I always looked forward to hearing from her, or chatting with her, on the BBC Radio Somerset evening show when I was sitting in for Charlie.  My favourite chat was on a weekend show I did earlier this year, when she told us all how she’d created a pottery cast of her face when she was young… and still had it! I loved Effie’s colourful stories and she will be much missed. Rest well Effie. Keep singing in the shower xxx  …

To Dear Effie.  Thank you for all the lovely memories. I always loved seeing you for your 2 weekly nail appointment, your nails were always so important to you, always telling me how everyone admired them! Our times spent together were all about our chats about your facinating life.. you reminded me of my Grandparents who I lost many years ago, you gave me the memories of which I missed with them, and now I will miss them once more with you. You were the most beautiful lady with the most beautiful soul.. God has gained a beautiful angel.. Rest in peace dear Effie.. lots of love always xxxx  …

Rest in peace my beautiful grandmother Effie. I have a million memories locked in my heart, which I will never forget. You celebrated 100 years of life this year and you were always there for us all. I remember when I used to sit on your lap whilst you manicured your nails, play with your jewellery and try on your shoes! The wonderful summers we spent climbing the apple trees and playing outside at Hazledene. The smell of freshly baked bread, hot dripping in butter & Marmite, and of course all of the animals… Angelina the goat, Rocky, Debbie, Jason & Suki, Leo. Oh, and Jack & Jill the crazy geese! I hope they are all with you now!  You loved your Kenwood chef and what about all of those rainbow jumpers you whipped up on the knitting machine? Eleanor, Mia and I miss your presence even though we are a long way away. You will always be in our hearts and know that you are always be around us.  …
