In Loving Memory of

Palmieri

Dr Antonella Palmieri

On Thursday 16th March 2023, our beloved friend and colleague, Antonella, passed away.  Antonella was such a huge part of our school community, and we already miss her terribly.

We know Antonella touched many lives in Lincoln and beyond, with her warmth, humour and wonderful smile.  Countless former students would check in with her regularly, sharing exciting updates of their lives post-studies, which Antonella took great pride and delight in.

This book of remembrance is to give you a space to share any memories of Antonella and to send your thoughts to her family.

I will always regard myself as lucky and honored to have had Antonella as my personal tutor whilst studying at Lincoln. With her support, I felt as though I could achieve anything, and I always knew she was there to help in any way she could. Her passion for film was evident from the first lesson I had with her through to the last, and it certainly increased my own. Studying Hollywood Musicals with Antonella was especially enjoyable as you could not help but share in her love for the subject and be in awe as she brought the energy of musicals into every session. Truthfully, she was the best lecturer you could wish for.  I only wish that I had taken the time to speak to her more, but I suppose I thought she’d always be there. She was one of the kindest, most caring, and most genuinely good people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. I will be forever grateful for the time we spent together.  …

As my personal tutor at my time at university Antonella helped me get through so much. During covid but also other times she would check in and make sure that I was ok. Her passion for her modules was infectious. I learned so much from her teaching and life lessons that I will carry with me. She was a supporter of my life and many others and although she won’t see in person where I end up I know that she is watching from above.  …

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Antonella passing. Antonella was one of several colleagues I have worked closely with. Firstly, I worked alongside Antonella as a seminar tutor and then as a year tutor in which  Antonella offered some amazing support and shared knowledge and her insights freely. Antonella will be missed by colleagues, friends, and family. My condolences to all. …

Antonella was the first tutor I met at Lincoln. She always had a smile on her face and her positive energy impacted everyone around her. You could tell that she cared for all of her students and she wanted us to do well. Her musical module was one of the modules which attracted me to Lincoln. Her passion and love for musicals shone through every lesson. She will be missed when I graduate as I always thought she would be there to the end. I will especially miss talking about Strictly as we always spoke about who was our favorite couple and if we agreed with which one got eliminated. She touched the lives of many and I will always treasure the memories I have of her.    …

I am so very sad to hear of Antonella’s passing and my condolences go out to her friends, family, colleagues and students. I know Antonella from our days at UEA and I will always cherish her enthusiasm and help when we co-taught together. I’ll be eternally grateful for her help with babysitting and treats. Antonella was so very kind and so much fun to be around. She was passionate about film and thoughtful in supporting her students (and colleagues!). We spoke at length about film noir, femme fatales, Italian cooking shows, and classical Hollywood. She always invited me in to her excitement about research and it was wonderful to catch up at conferences and research seminars over the years. I will miss her.  …

During my first year of Film & Television studies (albeit online) I remember the joy and passion that Antonella brought to our 9am sessions on a Monday morning and her delight to be able to meet us face to face for seminar sessions. I will forever be grateful to her, as my first meeting with her set me on a path that I am on now and if it wasn’t for the continued support and encouragement she showed me over the 3 years at university I would have never found my love for Hollywood musicals and aspirations to go onto further study in academia. The time we spent talking about my dissertation and Hollywood musicals will always hold a special place in my heart and continues to propel my research interests and goals. She had such a large impact on mine and so many other peoples lives.  Thank you so much for everything Antonella.  Rest In Peace. …

I am so shocked and sorry to hear of Antonella’s passing. I knew Antonella at the University of Lincoln from when I began as a PhD student. Antonella was so kind to me when I began as an associate lecturer working on some first year seminars alongside her. She met with me on my first day as an associate lecturer which really helped my nerves. After that, I worked with Antonella on a few of her modules, marking student essays. She was a wonderful colleague and very kind, friendly woman and will be sorely missed. …

I briefly knew Antonella from her time as a PhD student and tutor at UEA, and I was delighted to learn that she would be teaching my son Heller, a Film Studies student at Lincoln.  She quickly became his favourite teacher, with a supportive approach that endeared her to the students.  She will be missed. …
