It is with such sadness that I write this message about our lovely David! You were one of the funniest, most genuine and supportive person I know. Everyday you would greet me with some kind of insult or taking the mick out of me but with a great big smile. Wherever you are in this world, may you find peace and happiness and my thoughts and love are with you and your family. X …

I left this a while thinking it may make it easier to write. I’m not sure if it has. What I do know is that I’m still shocked and so deeply saddened by the news. My girls speak of David at odd times – Ella in year 1 said ‘Do you remember when Mr. Coleshill’s umbrella broke? He found it so funny’ when last time we were caught out by the rain – which David would agree always seems to start around 3pm! My 3 year old often won’t communicate much to adults but just weeks before his passing I noticed her practicing getting her fingers right to wave at him when it was her time to pick up her sister. He had a wave for her every single time, no matter if she ignored it or hid behind my legs.  She calls him now ‘ the man who waves’ and I’m glad she found the courage to wave back at him. That was sort of the effect he had I think. I’ll remember how funny he was, how kind, how practical, how joyful. But I was only just beginning to see quite how great he was at his …

Matthew Quish (father of Peter Rouse-Quish - Year 1)

Peter, Karen and I were very upset to hear about the sad and tragic news about Mr David Coleshill. Please pass our condolences onto his friends and family.  Although our interactions with Mr Coleshill were generally fairly brief as we entered and left the school each morning and afternoon, we were always struck by his friendliness, politeness and dedication to the challenging task of organising hundreds of children and parents to enter/exit the school in a manner that ultimately played a part in keeping us all safe during the pandemic. We have no doubt that he applied this professionalism and dedication to his ‘regular day job’. He will certainly be missed by all children, parents and staff at Whitehall and we look forward to a permanent memorial to his legacy being put in place in the future. RIP Mr Coleshill.    Peter Rouse-Quish Matthew Quish Karen Rouse From the ‘Year 1 Line’ …
