Dearest Michelle, Frances and Family, Our thoughts and prayers were with you on Friday 9th June as you commended your beloved father into heaven. We were sorry that we couldn’t be present at his funeral but watched the beautiful service on YouTube and shared with all there the wonder of his life and dedication to the Anglican Church and to all who knew him. Archbishop French, was such a kind and wonderful man. He touched the lives of so many including those of my family, who are eternally grateful for having known him. My grandfather, George Funston always made a point of visiting him whenever he came to Seychelles. Archbishop French was also greatly admired by my father, Panos, who asked him to become a member of the Archbishop Makarios Association. I also had the great pleasure of working with him on the Archbishop Makarios Foundation. He was such an avid member, never missing a meeting and always giving good advice. My mother also fondly remembers Archbishop French as both him and your lovely Mum, Suzie were good friends to my parents.  I will always remember that Archbishop French attended our Skychef parties held for children from the orphanages …

My wife Iris and I were privileged to know Father French when I worked in the Seychelles in the 1970s and honoured to spend an afternoon with him and his family at his house in 1992 and to have him visit us at our house in Hereford UK in 1994. He was a lovely gentle man and we are proud to have known him. Rest in peace Father French. Tony and Iris Bayley. …

It is with sadness that I express my condolence to the Chang-Him family at this time.  The Archibishop and I were good friends in Primary School – we were in the same class.  I’m sure it was his quiet, calm spirit, and his saintly example that kept me out of a lot of mischief and I know many on the island can say the same.  He had the heart and mind of Christ. He was small in stature, but I have heard it said that the strongest man is the one who can control his emotions, in the face of provocation.  Surely, in our nation there is no one who was stronger than Archibishop French. Rest in peace, my friend, until the resurrection morning, when we shall be called to meet with our Lord, never to part again. …

Bishop French had a true servant heart – after my late wife and I left Seychelles in 1980 he made sure that the grave at Mount Fleuri of our first daughter, Kim, who died one week old in 1976, was well looked after. I treasure the memories of our fellowship together, playing the organ at his wedding and enthronement as Bishop. It was a joy and privilege to visit him just a few months ago and renew our friendship.  He had a wonderful gift of making people feel they were important to him.  He truly modelled his Saviour’s love.  My love and prayers are with Michelle, Frances and all the family. …
