In Loving Memory of

Andy

Andy Rhodes

In loving memory of Andy, a Sheffield Wednesday fan with a passion for obscure beer, loud music and weekends away in the ‘tin shed’ with Jo.

At work he was a mentor, problem solver, crisis manager and friend.  His passing is deeply felt by us all.

There are some people who are just a joy to be around, Andy was certainly one of those with a dry wit and welcoming, friendly demeanour. I never finished a conversation with Andy without a smile on my face, such a loss to Achilles and the world. Our thoughts and wishes are with you all at this sad time. xx …

Andy – when i think of you a smile comes to my face. I feel very lucky to have worked with you over the years and I will always remember you as one of the “good ones” – one of those people who leave a lasting impression. You always got stuff done in a calm manner and without drama, but more than that …you were also just a really “top bloke”. I will miss your whitty “one liners” and I look forward to the day that we can share a pint again. Rest in peace my friend  Lee  …

Andy it was a privilege to know you for the last seven years, you did my interview at Achilles and I have appreciated your great support over the years. You had a great sense of humour and I enjoyed being in your company. God bless and rest in peace Andy. …

Andy was the first person I met at Achilles when he interviewed me and from the very first moment he struck me as being a very calm, kind and considerate person. It has been such a pleasure working along side Andy and it was such a shock to hear of his death and he will certainly be missed at Achilles, especially his great sense of humour. My thoughts are with Jo and family at this time. …

Andy was a mentor, friend and had the biggest positive impact on my work/life balance. Andy gave me my first opportuinity as an auditor and supported my growth, nothing was ever too much. Our last conversation was memorable as we looked back at the past 4 years with Andy saying “i can give you a protocol on the way into an audit and you will be fine”.  I will miss our chats, his support and reassurance Andy gave. It still doesn’t feel real that he is no longer here with us, rest in peace Andy.  …

Sudden departures from this world are such a difficult thing to bear and my heart goes out to your family and close friends. Your leaving has left so many of us thinking of our own lives and making as much as possible out of life’s present moments. Like so many others, Andy interviewed me more years ago than I care to remember and he was as amiable and welcoming as he was professional. Nothing was too much trouble for Andy and if he could go the extra mile he certainly would. But it was his dry sense of humour and knowing what to say and how to say it that we shall all surely miss the most. Achilles as a whole will never be the same without you my friend and especially the audit team. You have left a big hole and I shall especially miss those moments in meetings when there is a bit of spikiness or a lull which you knew exactly how to fill with your own inimitable style usually some witty comment; reference to God’s own country or my favourite which was “You can never do enough for a good company!”. I bid you a …

Such sad and unexpected news, Andy was a witty, down to earth chap who had been my manager for over 6 years and in that time he had supported me and sorted any problems. xxx …

I think many of us remember the managers we had, because they have the potential to have such an impact on our lives.  Since Andy recruited me into his team, almost 7 years ago, he made two decisions that had more of a positive impact than he could have known. Andy granted me compassionate leave – as much as I needed, so that I could stay at the hospital with my wife. The second was when I returned to Achilles after trying my hand at a different career. I contacted him and he took the time to find me a role and welcome me back into the fold.  I will miss his dry humour, his calm manner, his listening ear, and his safe pair of hands. …
